Lippstadt/Kaunas, October 16, 2017. Alongside industrial and political representatives, HELLA laid the foundation for a new electronics plant in Lithuania. With its new location in the Lithuanian Kaunas region, the automotive supplier intends to serve the increasing demand for electronics products while further expanding its international presence. The opening of the plant that will build mostly sensors, actuators and control modules for European automobile manufacturers, is scheduled for the middle of 2018. During its first expansion phase, the new HELLA site will initially comprise a production surface of 7,000 square meters and employ some 250 persons. The investment amount for this phase totals 30 million euros.
"The new plant in Lithuania serves as important building block for the future in the context of our global production network", said Gerold Lucas, executive board member of the Electronics business division and in charge of the global electronics production at HELLA, at the occasion of the groundbreaking. "Here in Lithuania, we encounter an outstanding environment with excellently trained employees and a powerful infrastructure."
The general manager of InvestLithuania, Mantas Katinas, confirmed in the context of his presentation the importance of the HELLA investment for Lithuania. "The fact that with HELLA, an internationally leading, highly respected automotive supplier opens a new plant here serves as strong signal not only to the Kaunas region, but also for Lithuania as an industrial location overall." The relevance of the investment was powerfully underlined by the economics minister of the Republic of Lithuania as well as the permanent representative of the German embassy in Lithuania participating in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new HELLA plant.
